Hynes’ rise was truly meteoric, staking his claim early as the Sharks’ chief playmaker in a team that clinched second place on the ladder. Missing just one match since Round 12, Hynes was phenomenal in 2022 alongside his new teammates and deserved the recognition he’s received. Hynes displays a footy IQ that is beyond his years, and was touted as the dark horse for the medal after he slid into third on 16 votes behind Hunt and Yeo when the voting went behind closed doors. Hynes joins exclusive company by winning the Medal in his first season at a club, joining former Shark Todd Carney, Johnathan Thurston, Gary Freeman and Steve Morris.
